PRIVATE STRANGER
is an ongoing inquiry on individual and collective memory, cultural imprint and social patterns

PRIVATE STRANGER is about encounters with strangers. In the subway, at dOCUMENTA(13), in an Art-Hotel and a private bathroom. My only condition is to ask what interests me, without any restriction. All the stories that have been entrusted to me, entered my memory and as I report them, I forget if I have experienced them or not.

SARAH SAYSSARAH SAGT - a performance with text, tape, and dance (2012)

A bilingual performance about the struggle with origins and the construction of identity. Who am and who may I become when familiar structures have broken down? Fragile relations and symbiotic conflicts increase between the spoken and what remains unsaid.

Which space can be discovered by movement in limitation?
How can I convey my experiences to the spectators?

Over a long period of time I've been researching on spatial constriction and social isolation with a videocamera in the reconstruction of a tiny box.
The longer I expose myself to the tightness the more my perception of physical and spatial relations change.
With a videocamera I trace my way through the space, while the video is simultaneously shown on a monitor
beside the box. In the video I destruct the "cell" by the images I take from it and establish a spatial set up beyond static conditions.

A spatial surgery with tape, movement, and noise

Where are my limits? How is this space constructed and "Was kommt nach der Ordnung"?
Out of my body measurements I construct a developable surface and tape it on the floor. The structure
defines a minimum of space to move in, consisting of my height and the length of my legs.
I am moving through the system in order to stay inside. My movements adapt to the form but overall
I am driven to conquer the order.
Suddenly I start to modify the construction. By changing the quality of space the situation between performer and audience gets transformed simultaneously.

In between desk, chair and walls I'm
performing in order to generate a live-stream to the "operating-screen" of http://thevirtual-anatomicaltheatre.net.
The audience might see me immediately or live on the internet. Glued to the notebook I'm working through this very limited space, trying to find liberation from physical and spatial isolation.
I broadcast in realtime to preserve the liveliness of the very moment and the online-audience is left with a gap
because of my real absence.

I'm conditioned by a notebook, a chair and a table. The purpose of my actions is to generate video and sound with the webcam. In order to give an insight into my emotions corresponding to the situation: I'm physically and spatially isolated throughout my obsession with the computer. I control my notebook to substitute a missing person. Communication as compensation.
